Terms of Contribution
Content Guidelines: This collection seeks contributions of original works from our broader Lafayette College community (including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni) that reflect the mission statement of the collection. These contributions can be creative works (including creative writing, photography, visual art, audio works, video), personal essays, and published works that signify solidarity against racial injustice (especially anti-black racism). Other work types are also welcome if they conform to the collection's mission statement.
Types of content: text, image, video, audio.
File formats: PDF, JPG, MP3, MP4, TIFF, MOV, WAV.
File guidelines:
- Images: scan images at a minimum setting of 600 DPI.
- PDF: ensure PDFs are well formed and fully text searchable.
- Audio/Visual: the highest quality, least compressed file you're able to provide.
For detailed assistance in creating your digital files, contact the Digital Initiatives Librarian avonj@lafayette.edu
Publication license: Materials will be published on this site using the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International license.
This is a publishing license only, and indicates that your work can be shared, provided the following conditions are met: if shared, proper attribution must be given to the creator; it may not be shared or used for commercial purposes; and no one is permitted to create derivatives of the work.
You will remain the owner of the copyright to your work. You may continue to use your work however you choose, including for commercial purposes, and you remain able to grant permission as you see fit to anyone requesting specific use of your work.
Metadata: All contributions must complete required metadata fields detailed in the submission form. These fields are:
- Title of work: the title you are giving your work. Please avoid "untitled" if at all possible.
- Creator: your name as the creator of the work.
- Date created: the date you completed the work.
- Description or summary (optional): If possible, write a description (best for images) or summary (best for prose, audio, and video contributions) of the work you are submitting.
- Location (optional): if your work references a specific place, or a specific place is relevant context for your work, you can indicate that place in this field.
Privacy Statement: This digital collection is committed to protecting the privacy of any individual shown in photographs or videos submitted to this collection that has not granted explicit consent to the sharing of their image in this context. As such, we ask that any submissions of photographs or video featuring non-consenting individuals make a best effort to obscure the identity of those imaged, by blocking out faces and identifying characteristics (such as tattoos, piercings, or distinctive images on clothing), and by removing any location metadata from the copy of the materials submitted to collection. For detailed guidance, please contact the Digital Initiatives Librarian avonj@lafayette.edu.
Review process: all submissions to the collection will be reviewed in two ways. Firstly, to ensure the metadata is complete, and that the submitted items conform to our requirements. Secondly, to ensure the content of the submission is in line with the collection's mission.
Life of the project: Submissions are open, and works are reviewed and published on a rolling basis. The collection will be subject to Digital Scholarship Services' retention schedule and policies.
