Yardan was born in Mahaicony, Guyana in 1943. She was educated in various schools throughout Guyana—including The University of Guyana for her post-secondary education. She began writing in the late 1960s and she has published one collection of poetry entitled The Listening of Eyes (1976). Although this singular collection remains, her beautiful poetry is a mainstay in the studies of Indo-Guyanese feminisms, poetry, and literary movements. She propelled poetry that discussed Guyanese love, food, culture, and history in melodic ways until her unfortunate passing due to cancer in 1989. The literary magazine Kyk-over-Al writes that Yardan’s “radiant spirit remained unfettered to the end.”
