Queer Archives Project

Welcome: Queer Pasts, Queer Futures

Welcome to the digital humanities research site of the Queer Archives Project at Lafayette College!  On this site you can explore a selection of Queer Archives Project oral history interviews accompanied by themes, keywords, archival artifacts, and interpretive research. To access all LGBTQ+ oral history interview transcripts to date and learn how to support the project, visit the QAP WordPress site.

The Queer Archives Project honors the experiences of the Lafayette LGBTQ+ community through the reflections of people who have lived the College's Queer history. Grounded in the oral histories of LGBTQ+ alumni, faculty and staff from 1959 to 2016, this site allows you to engage with interviews (both audio recordings and transcripts), explore key moments in Lafayette’s Queer history, access primary sources (over 150 archival objects, complete with metadata, exist on the site), and much more.

Led by a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of faculty, staff and students, the QAP aspires to illuminate Lafayette College's LGBTQ+ history and instigate institutional change. Our work is also designed to support teaching, learning and research in LGBTQ+ Studies, particularly via the College Archives and the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program.

As you explore the Lafayette Queer Archives Project digital site, we hope you will remember that, regardless of where you go, it is vitally important that you’re here.  Because when we recognize the Queer past, we make possible the Queer future.
