Community - Jennifer Wellnitz, Class of 2019, Lafayette College

When speaking about LGBTQ people as a whole, it is common parlance to use the phrase “the LGBTQ Community.” This terminology implies that there is one, unified voice of all queer people, and that the group takes a singular and specific form. Nothing could be further from the case. Even when examining a culture as specific and small as Lafayette college, one can find see that “the LGBTQ Community” takes a myriad of different forms, each form serving a different purpose, with some overlapping and some entirely distinct. This interpretive path will explore the various types of queer communities at Lafayette, their purposes, and their impact on the culture surrounding queer life on campus throughout the institution’s history.
